Minister of Education and Science of Armenia had a meeting with his Chinese counterpart

Minister of Education and Science of RA Arayik Harutyunyan had a meeting with the Minister of Education of PRC Chen Baosheng. First Minister Chen thanked Minister Harutyunyan for partipation in the international conference “Artificial Intelligence and Education” organized by UNESCO and the Government of China and becoming one of the founders of a new format. Minister Cheng said that Armenian-Chinese relations in the field of education have been developing dynamically since the establishment of diplomatic relations.

In his turn thanking his counterpart for the invitation to the conference and high level hospitality, Minister Harutyunyan stressed the huge progress China had in using AI technologies in the field of education. Armenian-Chinese relations have a serious potential now, according to Minister Harutyunyan. He expressed his satisfaction by the establishment of “Armenian-Chinese Friendship School” in Yerevan. Touching upon the role of the Confucius Institute in popularization of Chinese culture and education in Armenia, Minister Harutyunyan highlighted the readiness of the Chinese side in widening the opportunities of the Institute.

Minister Chen suggested to cooperate in AI research field stressing the readiness of the Chinese side to cooperate in technology development.

The counterparts also discussed the possibility of expanding the teaching of Chinese as a foreign language in Armenia, which was one of the topics of talks between the President of China Xi Jinping and Prime Minister of RA Nikol Pashinyan during his recent visit to China this May. Minister Harutyunyan proposed a pilot project in this context. Minister Chen expressed readiness on behalf of the Ministry of Education of China in supporting the proposed project by further professional training of specialists from Armenia in China. Cooperation between technological and medical universities of Armenia and China was discussed as well.
